A large roof floats above the landscape. Like a giant umbrella, the Water Pavilion creates sheltered spaces with views of the two lakes and impressive nature. The simple basic shape is folded over four lines and designed as a unified and playful form that moves with the landscape.
The design sets out to intensify the experience of nature. A building that is about views and insight. The large cantilevered roof engages the surrounding landscape deep into the interior. Under the roof, you are both inside and outside. The spaciousness of the hospitality area coincides with the panoramic view of Lake Leukemeer and the beach pool. The subtly dancing shape of the roof allows the pavilion to move with the topography of the surrounding area.
The water pavilion is an inviting building for everyone to take a seat in the landscape. Shaped as a living space that combines open views with several characterful seating areas. The building is attractive from different views and shows itself differently each time. Sometimes pronounced - at the sloping water's edge, sometimes upward - against the background of trees and shrubs. Designed as an adventurous silhouette subtle reference to a form language from nature; like that of a bird with unfolded wings.

The design takes into account the breadth of all natural life on site. The progressive bio-based materialisation and ecologically conscious design strongly anchor the building in its surroundings and create a tangible relationship with the natural features of the area.
The water pavilion plays a key role in the ambition to make Bergen the most future-proof municipality. An ambitious building with an intriguing, welcoming character that takes responsibility while setting an example for future initiatives.
